Yes, you will not get that job or promotion because of it... unless...
1- Ask yourself what is more valuable than Money. Are you having trouble answering this? Ask ChatGPT. You can think about Time, Honesty, Trust, Happiness, and Commitment.
2- Be aware of your nontechnical value. What are your attributes? How do your peers and friends perceive you?
3- Consider how your attributes and personality can help your technical field. I know this is hard, but you need to start thinking about this. Or, again, ask ChatGPT.
4- Convince yourself that people hire/promote you because of your Commitment and Trust, not because of your technical skills.
Technical skills matter, but they are teachable. Personality is not teachable, but it is fundamental. If I have to hire someone, I prefer a person with average technical skills + outstanding commitment rather than outstanding technical skills and lack of commitment. I talk about commitment, but it can be any other personal characteristic.
Your responsibility is to be aware of yourself and keep constant technical training.
